Vaughan Gething, Cabinet Secretary for Health visited Pontcae Medical Practice, Merthyr Tydfil on October 25th to find out more about our children’s dental health campaign – Baby Teeth DO Matter.

The campaign is raising awareness of the importance of adopting healthy dental habits early to prevent tooth decay, by giving oral health messages to parents at the earliest opportunity and to encourage attendance at a dental practice.

When parents attend the baby clinic, they are given oral health messages by a dentist along with free toothbrushes and toothpaste.

The campaign’s key messages are:

– Start tooth brushing as soon as your child gets their first tooth

– Brush teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste

– Reduce sugary snacks and drinks

– Take your child to the dentist when they get their first tooth

Mr Gething was accompanied by Colette Bridgman, Chief Dental Officer on the visit and both took the opportunity to speak to parents of children attending the baby clinic.
