What we do
The Ophthalmology Department is a Consultant led service which provides a comprehensive range of treatments and care for patients within the Cwm Taf area.
Specialty areas include retina, paediatrics, newborn screening, glaucoma, plastics, and a macular service as well as a cataract service. The majority of care is provided in the outpatient or day case setting and is supported by a specialist nursing team as well as an Orthoptic and Optometric service
Who is it for?
The service is for paediatric and adult patients of the UHB in our area who have sight problems that need treatment.
Can anyone use the service?
No – they will be referred by a Consultant, GP or local Optometrist.
9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday
What to expect
Outpatients will find attending a clinic very similar to a visit to the Opticians – where they are given a full eye examination. For more specialist treatment, the procedures will be fully explained.
Children attending the Orthoptic Service will be asked to read signs and look at different pictures to assess their needs and progress.
All patients may need to have drops put in their eyes – this again will be explained on the day.
Out of hours for emergencies only via the switchboard on 01443-443443.
