The Minister for Health and Social Services has today (Friday March 13th) agreed a framework of actions for health and social care providers to make decisions around elective and planned activity and measures to expedite patient discharges from hospitals to allow resources to be reallocated and for staff to be redeployed and retrained in priority areas.
Within Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB, operational groups have been established across all our three District General Hospital sites and localities. These groups have identified areas in their sites and localities to stand down activity and create areas for additional emergency capacity.
In response to the Ministerial guidance, detailed plans are being put in place to reduce elective and outpatient activity to ensure clinical leads can train, plan and prioritise the delivery of emergency services. This situation is being carefully monitored and all decisions about reductions and postponements for planned activity will be communicated with relevant staff and patients as soon as they are made.
We thank all our staff for continuing to work incredibly hard in this very fast-changing situation, with so many other continuing pressures.
