Staff are celebrating after officially opening the newly refurbished state-of-the-art Paediatric Assessment Unit at Princess of Wales Hospital.
The PAU has undergone significant renovation in recent months thanks to the hard work of the team and significant support from technology company Sony.
Patients and families are already benefiting from the improvements, which include a full re-design of the wards using a Lego theme and the installation of new equipment, including state-of-the art television sets and display screens.
Sian Townsend, Matron for Paediatrics at Princess of Wales Hospital, said: “We are thrilled with the refurbishment of the Unit and are very grateful to Sony for their generosity in supporting us with this initiative, which has been delivered thanks to the collaborative working of all the teams. The changes make for a much better environment for our staff and patients, while the new equipment which has been put in place will help improve hospital stays for children and their families.”
Lisa Jenkins, Ward Manager for the children’s ward, said: “The whole is team is delighted with the improvements which have been made to Unit. Coming into hospital is a difficult time for young people and creating such a lovely environment has already made a difference to our patients and their families. We’d like to thank Sony for all their support.”
Gerald Kelly, Director of Professional Services at Sony UK Technology Centre, said: “As a business in South Wales, we are committed to making a difference to the lives of young people within our community.
“Many of our team players have personal experience of having children who have unfortunately needed treatment in this fantastic facility. All their hard work fundraising to commission this project is to say thank you for the incredible care the hospital and its staff provide.
“Our team players have worked incredibly hard to make this project a reality, but we know there is still a lot more that we can do to help make the journey to wellness for our young people that little bit more pleasurable.
“We look forward to continuing our fundraising efforts.”
