What we do
High quality imaging is becoming increasingly important and complex and is a significant factor in diagnosis and treatment of a range of conditions.
We provide a comprehensive Radiology service for our local residents, including:
- General imaging
- CT (Computerised tomography)
- MRI (Magnetic resonance imaging
- Nuclear Medicine
- Barium / Fluoroscopy
Not all services are provided at all sites. Our more specialist services are available at Prince Charles Hospital and Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
Who is it for?
Patients with a wide range of conditions may require the services of the Radiology Department.
For example, a chest x-ray or an x-ray of a limb to diagnose a fracture; ultrasound scans for pregnant women to check the health of their baby; or more complex examinations to diagnose illnesses such as cancer.
Can anyone use this service?
Patients are normally referred to the Department by their GP or Consultant in the hospital or sometimes by another healthcare professional such as a specialist physiotherapist or specialist nurse.
Monday to Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm. There is an emergency service available via the Emergency Unit out of hours – in line with other specialities.
Dewi Sant Hospital: 9am to 4.30pm on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday & 9am to 12.30pm Thursday & Friday
What to expect
Patients are referred to Radiology in a number of ways, including a referral from their GP, via the Emergency Unit or as an inpatient.
Unless you are an emergency patient, you will receive a letter from us inviting you for an appointment which will outline anything you might need to do before attending or anything that you might need to bring with you.
For example, some examinations require you not to eat food for a period of time before arriving or perhaps taking certain medication which ensures the examination is performed appropriately.
