What we do
We are a small multidisciplinary team providing specialist knowledge and skills for children and young people with complex neurodevelopmental conditions (including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and Tourette’s Syndrome) and their families in the following areas:
- advice and intervention (where appropriate and possible), and
- liaison with existing services within the UHB, partner agencies and voluntary organisations
We fall under Cwm Taf’s Children, Young People and CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) directorate, and have input from both CAMHS and community paediatrics.
Who is it for?
Children and young people up to the age of 18 years.
Can anyone use this service?
Requests for assessment will be considered from primary and secondary level care providers, as long as sufficient relevant information is available. However, requests for assessment are encouraged from the professional who knows the young person best.
Monday – Friday 9am-5pm. We are a small team working over several sites and cannot always answer the telephone immediately – however do please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we are able.
What to expect
Within the service we assess and consider diagnosis/es for children and young people with complex neurodevelopmental presentations of ASD, ADHD, Tourette’s Syndrome and other associated/co-morbid conditions. We also offer follow up for those young people who have been diagnosed with ADHD by the service and have been started on medication.
Assessment is planned in a child/young person-centred way, making sure that sufficient information is gathered to create a comprehensive profile of the child/young person’s needs. The healthcare professional(s) that a young person sees and the assessments that they undergo will be determined by their clinical presentation.
