A local primary school opened their doors to a band of eager volunteers during February half-term!

As part of Interserve Construction Limited ‘Give a Day of Your Time’ initiative, staff of the company, and their subcontractors, volunteered their services to paint the hall of local primary school, Ysgol Y Graig, in Merthyr Tydfil.

The ‘Give a Day of Your Time’ initiative encourages employees to take time out of their job to help a charity or provide valuable support to the local community.

Chris Edmonds, senior project manager at Interserve Construction Limited, said: “As part of our commitment to enhancing the local communities in which we work, we arranged to carry out some work at Ysgol-Y-Graig.

“I understand they are due to move to a new school in the future but, as yet, there is no confirmed start date so we offered our services to freshen up the school hall.”

Interserve, a multinational group of support services and construction companies based in the UK with a workforce of 68,000 people worldwide, are the main contractors for the current refurbishment work on the Prince Charles Hospital site in Merthyr Tydfil.

The team armed with numerous tins of paint, brushes and rollers took two days to complete the work which was free of charge to the school.

Headmaster, Matthew Harries, said: “Our very grateful thanks go out to the team for choosing our school and, on behalf of the entire school community, I extend our grateful thanks to the volunteers for giving of their time to paint and decorate the school hall.

“A huge well done to everybody for their hard work and effort. It is wonderful to see the children enjoying meal times, assemblies and sports lessons in a clean, fresh and attractive environment.”
